Competitive Youth Distance Training
Youth Distance Running Training in Minnesota
Lightning Performance offers competitive youth distance and mid-distance training led by Coach Anna-Marie Allen, a former Division I student-athlete at the University of Minnesota with two decades of coaching experience. The program is designed for young runners who want to develop endurance, efficient mechanics, pacing, race strategy, confidence, and long-term competitive growth.
Distance training with a developmental purpose
Youth distance runners need more than mileage. Training should match the athlete’s age, training history, competition schedule, and ability to recover. Our approach emphasizes gradual development, sound mechanics, appropriate aerobic work, race-specific preparation, and consistency.
Skills that matter in distance racing
Distance performance depends on aerobic development, running economy, pacing, positioning, the ability to change gears, and confident race decision-making. Athletes learn how to manage effort while continuing to build competitive instincts.
Running mechanics • Aerobic development • Tempo and threshold concepts as age-appropriate • Pacing • Hills • Strides and speed support • Race strategy • Recovery education
Distance and speed can support each other
Even distance runners benefit from learning efficient mechanics and developing speed. Lightning Performance’s broader track environment allows athletes to build complete athletic qualities while receiving event-group-specific coaching.
Serving youth athletes across the Twin Cities
Lightning Performance Track Club expects to serve families from Roseville, Little Canada, Arden Hills, White Bear Lake, Stillwater, and surrounding Minnesota communities. Practice locations may vary by season and facility availability.
